SJRC Texas
St. Jude's Ranch for Children Texas (SJRC) cares for children and families who have been affected by trauma, abuse and neglect. We are their safe haven and offer help and hope to begin the journey of healing.
About SJRC Texas
In 2016 there were 66,721 confirmed victims of abuse and neglect in Texas; 4,550 of these victims lived in Bexar County, approximately 400 lived in Comal County. (TDFPS 2016 Annual Report). SJRC Texas cares for close to 100 children of these children each day from the Greater San Antonio and surrounding area. We strive to provide the best care possible and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our work raising children in foster care, the mental health of children and families, and the welfare of children and adoptions - creating forever families.
Children placed in our care quite often come with only the clothes on their back, sometimes with a trash bag of their clothes, stuffed animals and maybe a toy, and always with some fear and trepidation as to what is happening in their little world. Additionally, many children come with the emotional and psychological scars characteristic of abuse and neglect. Left untreated, victims of abuse and neglect are at a higher risk for long term negative physical, psychological, medical, behavioral and societal outcomes. The negative outcomes can have repercussions their whole life, affect how they raise their children, and determine whether the cycle of abuse will continue to the next generation (https://www.childwelfare.gov). Using our evidence based, innovative, therapeutic, trauma-informed model of care, we work to ensure that every child knows they are safe and loved, and the healing process can begin.
We are raising the next generation of children here in our community who will hopefully be able to contribute to the community and help make it a better place. Your participation and support is greatly appreciated by the children and families we care for.
