Portfolio Resident Services is a non-profit organization with an intentional mission to improve the quality of life for low to moderate-income individuals, families, and senior citizens. We provide CORES certified resident services, which include educational, financial, health and fitness, family skills development, and recreational/social enrichment programs and activities.

Our rich history dates back to 1965, when the Inter-Faith Housing Corporation was founded in Houston, Texas to address the needs of the city’s poorest and most vulnerable residents living in substandard housing.

The Inter-Faith Housing Corporation came together as a coalition of nine visionaries to form a unique group that was non-profit, non-partisan, and non-sectarian. They were united for the single purpose of addressing inequality by making adequate housing available. Early on, this group recognized that “housing” meant much more than simply a building; it was an inclusive term encompassing a network of related social services concerned with the total human needs of the residents.

As the coalition continued to address the critical housing shortage and engage residents living in affordable housing communities, our reach extended past the city limits of Houston as Texas Inter-faith Supportive Services and, eventually, nationwide as Portfolio Resident Services.

Today, PRS is a member of the Inter-Faith Group, an umbrella agency encompassing all aspects of housing: real estate development, management, and resident services. With operations in more than 300 communities across the country, PRS is the nation’s largest third-party resident services providers. Although we do conduct programs in conventional properties, most of our portfolio includes affordable housing for low-to-moderate-income- households, operating under the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program (LIHTC).
