About New York University

Higher education is at the core of this Big Apple institution. The setting and heritage of New York University (NYU) make it one of the nation's most popular educational institutions. With more than 50,000 students attending its 18 schools and colleges, NYU is among the largest private schools in the US. Its Tisch School of the Arts is well-regarded, and its law school and Leonard N. Stern School of Business are among the foremost in the country. NYU occupies five major centers in Manhattan; its Washington Square campus is in the heart of Greenwich Village. The school was founded in 1831. Notable alumni include former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan and film producer Oliver Stone.

Geographic Reach

Along with its campuses in New York, NYU operates branch campus and research programs in other parts of the US and abroad, as well as study abroad programs in more than 25 countries. International students make up about 10% of the school's student body.

Operations

The school confers about 12,000 degrees annually. Of those, roughly 4,500 are bachelor's degrees, nearly 5,000 are master's degrees, and about 400 are doctoral. Associate and professional degrees make up the rest. NYU alumni and faculty also boast several prestigious awards, including more than a dozen Nobel and Crafoord prizes and another four Pulitzer prizes.

NYU is one of the largest employers in New York City, with more than 16,000 employees.

Strategy

NYU has established itself as the first global network university, with a comprehensive liberal arts campus in Abu Dhabi that opened in 2010..
