Mountaineer Gas Company Company

Mountaineer Gas Company
Electricity flows from Monongahela Power (Mon Power) just like the river the utility was named after. Incorporated in Ohio in 1924, the company services approximately 383,600 residential and commercial customers in a service area of 13,000 sq. mi. in West Virginia. Mon Power, along with West Penn Power and Potomac Edison, comprised the Allegheny Power arm of Allegheny Energy, which merged with FirstEnergy in 2011. Mon Power has power plants with 2,740 MW of generating capacity and owns 41% of power plant operator Allegheny Generating. The company is contractually obligated to supply Potomac Edison with sufficient power to meet that company's power load obligations in West Virginia.
