About MD Anderson Cancer Center

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston is one of the world's most respected centers focused on cancer patient care, research, education and prevention. It was named the nation's No. 1 hospital for cancer care in U.S. News & World Report’s 2016 rankings.

It is one of only 45 comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute. Since 1944, more than 1 million patients have sought out MD Anderson’s expertise.

The institution pioneered a multidisciplinary approach to research-driven care. In Fiscal Year 2015, MD Anderson invested more than $780.5 million in research.

More than 6,600 trainees take part in educational programs at MD Anderson each year. The institution awards degrees in nine bachelor's programs and one master's program in allied health disciplines. In collaboration with The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, MD Anderson awards M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at The UT Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

MD Anderson was created by the Texas Legislature in 1941 as a component of The University of Texas System. From then through today, MD Anderson continues to set the standard in cancer prevention research and the translation of new knowledge into innovative, multidisciplinary care for patients, survivors and people at average or elevated risk of developing cancer.
