About Intrado

Dial 9-1-1 and Intrado tries to ensure that your call for help is answered. The company, a subsidiary of teleservices provider West Corporation, provides emergency call operations support services to incumbent and competitive local-exchange carriers and wireless phone companies in North America. It also serves state and local government agencies. Intrado's National Data Services Center ensures that 9-1-1 calls are routed to the appropriate public safety agency with the caller's call-back number and location. The company also licenses its software to network operators for in-house management of 9-1-1 services.

Acquisitions have played a key role in the company's growth and expansion over the years. In 2011 the company bought Contact One, a developer of integrated 9-1-1 geographic information systems (GIS) data management systems. The purchase extends Intrado's GIS capabilities to include a graphical master street address guide tool that lets it offer enhanced dispatch mapping support for the public safety market. Also that year, Intrado purchased the telecommunications operations of PivotPoint Solutions, which provides monitoring and optimization tools to improve location accuracy for US and Canadian wireless carriers, covering more than 135 million subscribers. The PivotPoint business allows Intrado to offer a more complete suite of wireless 9-1-1 location network improvement services and compliance with evolving FCC rules.

Through subsidiary Intrado Communications, the company provides transport, transmission, and routing of emergency calls for wireline, wireless, and computer telephony service providers in 40 states.

Founded in 1979 as Systems Concepts of Colorado, the company changed its name to Intrado in 2001 when it bought Lucent Public Safety Systems. Intrado has satellite offices in Illinois, Texas, and Quebec. Intrado was acquired by West Corporation in 2006 and became a part of its communications services unit.
