About FirstHealth of the Carolinas

FirstHealth of the Carolinas maintains a health care network that spans across 15 counties in the mid-Carolinas. The network includes three hospitals (Moore Regional, Richmond Memorial, and Montgomery Memorial) that provide emergency, surgical, acute care, and diagnostic services and have a combined capacity of about 580 beds. Its largest hospital, Moore Regional, includes an inpatient rehabilitation center and a heart hospital. FirstHealth of the Carolinas also operates satellite facilities including family practice clinics, fitness centers, and dental practices. In addition, the system provides home health and hospice services, emergency care, medical transportation, and health insurance (FirstCarolinaCare). Like most US hospital systems, FirstHealth made some cost-control efforts in 2009 in response to the economic recession, including minimal job cuts and adjustments to employee benefits. The health system did carry on with certain growth measures though, including the opening of a new cardiology and neurology facility, the Reid Heart Hospital, in early 2011. The center is located on the Moore Regional campus and has about 60 beds. To expand its services in Hoke County, FirstHealth is building a medical campus consisting of an urgent care center, diagnostic facilities, and physician offices. It has also announced plans to build a new 65-bed acute care hospital in the area.
