Doyon, Limited, the doyenne of a Native American-owned corporations, is the largest private landowner in Alaska, controlling 12.5 million acres. The company has four business segments with diversified interests: Oil Field Services (Doyon Drilling, Doyon Remote Facilities & Services, Doyon Universal Services); Government Contracting (Doyon Government Group, Doyon Utilities); Natural Resource Development (Doyon Lands and Natural Resources); and Tourism (Denali River Cabins, Kantishna Wilderness Trails). The Doyon Foundation promotes health, education, and economic development of native Alaskans. In 2011 Doyon announced plans to conduct a 2D seismic program in the unexplored northern portion of the Nenana basin in 2012. (An earlier exploration in the Nenana basin has revealed the potential for oil development). In 2012 Doyon had 2,500 employees in Alaska, Florida, Montana, Oregon, Texas, Virginia, and Washington state. Doyon is one of the thirteen Native regional corporations established by US Congress under the terms of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971 and is one of the largest private landowners in North America. It is led by a 13-member board of directors and has 18,500 Alaska Native shareholders.
