The shiniest jewel in the crown of Emerald State government is the Office of the Governor of Washington. The state elects its executive every four years. The Governor makes policy recommendations the state Senate and House of Representatives, signs and vetoes bills, convenes special legislative sessions, and appoints members of the Cabinet as well as judges and members of boards and commissions, over 1,000 appointees in all. In addition to recommending bills to the legislature, the Governor also issues executive orders, directives, and proclamations to address emergency issues and priorities of the office. The Office of the Governor of Washington has a budget of about $16.9 million.
