Big Sandy Superstore is an Employee-Owned home furnishings “Superstore" carrying the very best in appliances, televisions, furniture, mattresses and home décor.

In fact, we strive to provide a great work environment and treat each other with respect and dignity.

We are three generations strong, founded in 1953 by Robert W. Van Hoose Sr., who was fresh out of the Air Force at the time. With a $1000 loan from his wife, Lorna, in hand, he opened his first store in Ashland, KY. The Big Sandy name is a tribute to the Big Sandy River, a vital resource of the logging industry in Ashland during the early 1900's.

The Golden Rule

Mr. Van Hoose operated his business under a very basic principle: giving customers the best possible value for the money spent and, if there was ever a problem, following the Golden Rule. This simple formula has stood the test of time as Big Sandy has grown to become a National Top 50 Home Furnishings Retailer.
