Atrium Windows and Doors Company
Atrium Windows and Doors
The way to Atrium's heart? Right through that sliding door. Atrium Corporation (formerly Atrium Companies) makes and distributes vinyl and aluminum windows and patio doors for residential use. Its brands include Atrium, Champion Window, North Star, Superior Windows, and Thermal Industries impact-resistant windows, doors, and shutters. Products are sold to the wholesale and retail markets, and Atrium also offers installation and repair services. The firm serves customers in the Caribbean, Central and South America, the Far East, and all 50 states in the US. Atrium was founded in 1948 and is majority-owned by investment firms Kenner & Company and Golden Gate Capital. Bankruptcy Atrium had a brief stint in Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2010 as the downturn in the housing and construction market, particularly in Florida, and a worsening economy prompted the company to restructure. In response, Atrium closed plants in Connecticut, Arizona, and Florida and most of its sales and distribution offices in Florida in a shift away from its direct-to-dealer sales model; it also divested its Miniature Die Casting window components subsidiary. Ownership Private equity companies Golden Gate Capital and Kenner & Company gained a 93% stake in the company after it emerged from bankruptcy.
